Hinepukohurangi is the Tuhoe Maiden of the Mist. This piece is personal because I am Ngai Tuhoe(name of my tribe) and grew up knowing that we as Tuhoe are the children of the mist. Here I have depicted her amongst the mist looking out over her forest, Te Urewera, and also towards our sacred mountain, Maunga Pohatu. Maunga Pohatu was previously a being named Te Maunga who was Hinepukohurangi's husband.
